Recto’s Watered-Down Sin Tax Bill Version

THERE’S THE RUB: Completely different angle

The people who toiled through the night to get the sin taxes passed have every reason to be pissed off at Ralph Recto. They can only feel stabbed in the back. The difference between P60 billion and P15 billion is vast, the first being the revenue that would have been gotten from the original sin tax bill and the second from Recto’s watered-down version of it. The charge that he’s more concerned with protecting the health of the tobacco industry than that of his countrymen is believable.

In fairness to Sen Recto (if I try to look into their side of the street).
His proposal was gradual_3-tier tax increase. The government_DOF, BIR, DOH, Malacanang, wants All-In. Claiming that the projected tax of Php60Billion has been factored in sa 2013 budget.

On E-Vat : Yes, he was the main culprit on this E-Vat. However, he was also the one recently, that the E-Vat is no longer needed since the country has recuperated a bit from the illness. E-Vat was meant to keep the economy afloat, together with the OFW Remittance money. Presently, the economy is floating, Sen. Recto has mentioned, that it is time to review the E-Vat.

Local tobacco producers : There are plenty of them in oru country. They have families to feed too. High taxation on this products would lead to smuggling of the same. Leaving our producers with no resources.

Don’t get me wrong, I want the Sin Tax to be so high up that it could be affordable only to those who have money to throw away.

Sa Japan, I think nasa 3,000 pesos yata eh…

Then makakahinto ka. Sabi ng iba candy or chewing gums.
